  1. Those who believe that intelligence is fixed. That it is not malleable, and therefore can not be improved.
  2. Or those that believe intelligence is changeable, and as such, can be cultivated through time and effort.

This is not an article about the motivations behind why people play video games, but one that explores how video games engender effective motivational characteristics both in and outside gaming contexts.

Codex Entry 2 – Emotional Benefits

Congratulations on locating Codex Entry 2. As our focus draws towards the singular, we examine how video games are able to inspire and modulate various emotional states of being. Here’s some Experience to get you over to the next level.

There is this moment in British developer The Chinese Room’s story-based indie adventure game, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, that I feel transcends the borders of its video game confines. Granted there can be several similarly euphoric moments depending on how broadly this game affects you, but this one moment I speak of happens at the end of the first arc, where narrative and gameplay converge into a sequence that steals my breath away.
